CHAPTER SEVEN

At last she reached a point where she could no longer run, and fell on her knees beside a large, spreading fir tree. As if to reflect her feelings of misery, it began to rain heavily, soaking her to the skin. Hurriedly she scrambled under the shelter of the tree beside her, sitting with her back against the trunk and her legs stretched out in front of her. As she sat there, a combination of her misery and exhaustion overwhelmed her, and she sank into an empty, lonely sleep. It was the sound of voices that woke her. Sitting up suddenly, she heard two voices calling her name. One was David's voice, the other the Doctor's. Also, she heard the Doctor mentally shouting her name. Probably in case I couldn't answer except by telepathy she thought, intrigued by his resourcefulness. The voices were getting closer. Slowly, she came to realize that she wanted to be found. She would rather be with people in this forest, then on her own. Taking a deep breath, she shouted out "I'm here!" Instantly they both seemed to locate her position, as there was the sound of undergrowth being torn apart as they both rushed towards where her voice had sounded. David was the first one to catch sight of her.

"Firestorm!" He was upon her at once, snatching her from the ground and pressing her against him in a hug of joy and relief. She suddenly found herself clinging to him and without quite knowing why, started crying. She sensed the Doctor come up behind her, who patted her shoulder, to assure her that he was there. She attempted to hide her tears by burying her face in David's shirt. He chuckled weakly, then sat down in the position she had previously occupied, gently settling her on his lap. She raised her head from his tear-dampened shirt to gaze around her. The Doctor strode over to where they were sitting, remaining on his feet but smiled reassuringly at her when she caught his gaze. She slowly dropped her eyes, feeling ashamed at her behavior. "I-I'm sorry. I shouldn't have run off like that. I was afraid that you would start hating me when you saw what I could do." The Doctor crouched beside her, saying softly "I told you once before that I loved you and I still do. Nothing you do could change that. I am also not as narrow-minded as the people on your home planet were." He put a hand of comfort on her shoulder. A joyful, warm feeling swept through her as she realized that they actually cared about her. She could never remember having felt this way before, which made her wonder what it was that made her feel so happy. The Doctor smiled as he saw the expression of blissful happiness on her face. It is 'love' you feel child. For the first time in your life you find that you have people who care about you and will do anything to keep you happy. You now feel that you want to do the same for them.

Firestorm turned to him, an expression of amazement on her face. How did you know I felt that way? The Doctor chuckled. I could see it in your face.

She smiled back at him, and then made a decision. Mentally preparing herself, she said hesitantly "I think…it is time to tell you my biggest, darkest secret." David and the Doctor both looked mystified, then David said "If you want to tell us, then we have no objection in hearing what you have to say." She nodded, then leaning back on David's chest, began to talk. "By now you must be wondering why I have such strange eyes and why I have such great and terrible powers. I do not know much about the powers, but I can tell you about my eyes." She took a deep breath and said "I am part Dragon"

A/N: bwahahahaha! Behold the power of the great and terrible CLIFF HANGER! Now you shall have to wait until the next chapter for the great revelations about Firestorm!
